Director / Senior Designer
Heading up the design and project management team is company owner Garrett Hebden. Garrett is a registered builder with more than 30 years of home, kitchen, and bathroom renovation experience.
Garrett’s career in the building industry continues a family tradition of exemplary home building and renovating. Both his father and grandfather ran highly regarded and successful businesses, in Essendon and the surrounding suburbs.
After completing a five-year apprenticeship working with a well-established Master Builder in Essendon (responsible for many of the landmark homes built in the area built in the 50’s and 60’s), Garrett’s father purchased a Cabinetmaking Business. Utilising his building skills and his own father’s business knowledge, Garrett’s father was able to expand the business into building and renovations, specializing in kitchen and bathrooms. After attending a conference in America and noticing the changing styles and trends that were changing the face of the industry in the US, this was an area he had identified as a coming growth area. This forward thinking allowed Hebden's Kitchens & Bathrooms to rapidly expand and become an industry leader, gaining the support of the Australian Kitchen & Bathroom Association, now commonly known as KBDi; The Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute of Australia.
When it came time for Garrett to choose a career, the decision was easy. Growing up seeing the inner working of the building and renovation industry, Garrett knew that he wanted continue the family tradition. Determined to learn all aspects of the business, he took up a carpentry apprenticeship with the family business, Hebden's Kitchens & Bathrooms. In 1988 he completed the apprenticeship and became an accredited building practitioner.
“Fathers are hard task masters, but learning this way enabled me to learn from first class tradesmen throughout the various fields used in the housing industry.” – Garrett Hebden.
The high standards of workmanship, and ethical values that his father instilled into him, have guided the principles upon which Garrett’s business, Better Bathrooms and Kitchens operates. Correct and thorough planning, listening to the customer, respecting regulations, watertight procedures, using high quality materials and equipment, together with reliable qualified support tradesmen and an accurate accounting system are vital in the Better Bathrooms and Kitchens success story. Garrett believes that this success translates into a business that produces the best results for clients, is always looking forward and leading the industry, is sustainable and can stand the test of time.
While expectations and styles may change over time, Garrett’s enthusiasm for the industry, and desire to produce industry leading designs and builds remains as intense as it was when he entered into the building industry many years ago.
“I enjoy the challenge of bringing each client's dreams to life. I pride myself on having gained a creative talent for design and proficiency, two components that contribute to successful projects and satisfied customers, along with a reputation of our name being linked to a job well done.” – Garrett Hebden.
Garrett’s award-winning work has been recognised by his industry peers and featured in multiple publications including; Melbourne Kitchen + Bathroom Design magazine, Melbourne Home Design & Living magazine, Kitchens & Bathrooms Quarterly, Kitchen Yearbook and Bathroom Yearbook.
