An ornate, traditional kitchen with attention to fine design details complements a new home in the best way
A new home doesn’t always mean everything must be sleek, contemporary and minimalist. In fact, this kitchen is quite the opposite, with the owners opting for a decidedly traditional look.
The owners’ brief to kitchen designer Karen Agnew of Better Bathrooms & Kitchens was to design a kitchen that would not only be functional, with lots of storage including drawers, cupboards and display cabinets, but it also had to complement their new home.
When planning the design, Karen had to create a canopy over the cooker and add a pelmet over the window to continue the theme. A larder was included in the design to neatly store all those kitchen essentials and the island bench, with its drawer banks, provides extra storage and practicality.
Different heights and depths of the overhead cabinetry give the kitchen an interesting dimension, while state-of-the-art mechanisms allow elements of efficiency.
The use of natural materials such as wood and granite create a nostalgic look and a dresser of the same cabinetry style was also designed to complement the kitchen. In addition, incorporating such traditional features as Farmers Waratah Red Gold doors and panels, Farmers kickboards, decorative timber mouldings, pewter bales and knobs, an antique-brown granite splashback and benchtop and a pendant light add to the design’s classic appeal and complete the picture.
This spacious kitchen is traditional and ornate with much attention to detail. It’s a beautiful kitchen to prepare a delicious meal for all the family.
